picking up with backpack bugged

My inventory is full, but Is still have room for 2 more items in my backpack. However, when I pick something, it just disappears. It does not go into my backpack, nor does it appear in my hand, as it would when only my inventory is full, without backpack. It just instantly disappeared. This did not happen before the latest update.
