Infamous BLACK screen crash

Ive been reading and researching for a while, so far came up with nothing. I get the black screen and have to hold my power button to restart my computer. Ive tried clearing the java cache, drivers are up to date, reinstalled game, fresh java 7 install and I cannot find the .salem file. I even downloaded a 3rd party search program and it is no where to be found. The game seemed to work fine until I checked render shadows. Cant find the file I need and Im really interested in giving this game a shot, help please

After more research I seen a couple comments about using Java 6. So I uninstalled 7, installed 6 and ran ccleaner to fix registry errors and all that crap for extra precaution. Finally can play now after about 3 hours of messing around. Hope this might work out for someone that may be in my old shoes
