So this is more in the realm of technicalities than bugs, but I would like to address the archaic audio system Salem uses. I've not yet looked at the similarities between new Haven and current Salem ,but i was under the impression loftar used a lot of his salem code for the bare bones of hafen, and can attest that hafen and salem alike have an audio system that is a total mess. Recently loftar fixed this issue a bit in hafen by adding some coder magic to increase the audio buffer the game uses manually, and i would like to suggest that once JC is around that could be one of the things on his to do list. The audio stutter that happens in some situations in game totally ruins immersion and probably causes some people to play with audio off. I personally enjoy all the fun sounds you've added to the game and think that if sound were less broken it'd help others also enjoy said ambient sounds. So yeah, if loftar's up for sharing his magic code or if JC wants to try his hand at optimizing in his own way, it'd be a really nice thing to have.
Examples of the audio cluster fornication : java garbage collection gets lazy for a bit and every crow i see on the map past that point crows a good 5 times. A lot of the sounds overlap and just stutter and repeat where they shouldn't. And when the game needs to play more than a few things at once the audio side of it will stutter all fps somehow.

thanks for the heads up. I'll have a look at what loftar magic has occurred on the hafen client, see how easy it would be to port into the salem vanilla/custom clients.
I haven't actually looked into the hafen client code yet, but as far as I am aware it was indeed largely similar to haven/salem, it was mainly server-side that things changed.
That said, I never play salem with sounds, so there's little motivation for me to put a lot of work into it

...speaking of sounds, is there a way to replace/deactivate single sounds,
like the rather unpleasent sound of dropping something in a sled/cart?

yeah, using the layer util you can change .wavs like you can any other resource of the client. I'm not sure where to look for that particular one, though. Looking through the res tree, it's probably res/sfx/actions/bagdrop, or something in that same directory.

Changing the topic just a little bit. I think more money should be invested into the making of sounds for Salem... I mean good sound, not more sound.

I bet players would be willing to help here to cut some cost, and to get themselves or at least their voices into the game.

It would be great if people did that! That way we don't have one voice for all characters

I just don't know how much work/cost it would be for the devs to sort through such submissions, and if there would be any legal hooks...

Turkeys can be a bit annoying, granted, but madness audio is awesome.
