[Hanging] White window

Postby dezerte » Thu Nov 08, 2012 3:17 pm

Hello,

When I try to launch Salem I'm greeted with a white empty window, which can only be closed by doing the CTRL+ALT+DEL routine. If I enable java logging I can see that it seems to stop responding when it reaches "JNLPClassLoader: Finding library jogl_awt.dll". From what I've found on the internet it has something do with OpenGL, but I already tried updating my video drivers to the latest ones so I don't know how too solve this.

Any help is appreciated.

What video card/GPU chipset do you have on your system? Check against this thread: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=96 Some older chips aren't supported with proper drivers, others have potential solutions.

I'm not as familiar with nVidia cards. Check all of your settings. There may be some incompatibility there. I know on ATI cards having Triple Buffering on for OpenGL just crashes the client.

It's possible something didn't download to your system correctly. You could try clearing Salem out of your Java cache and reloading it.

Worst comes to worst, you might need to go through some version checking with your video driver. An older one may work where a newer one doesn't. If this is the case, you should contact nVidia or the card manufacturer about the issue.

I've tried & checked all the above, except trying different drivers. I'll go see if there's any older or any beta drivers I could try.

Thanks for the help regardless.

Sorry I can't be of more help. :( There's just not much I can do from this end of things (I'm a hands-on guy). Maybe someone else who's better at these things or has found the same problem and resolved it can help.

Meh, game runs effortlessly on my laptop. But I still can't run it on my main computer.

And there it hangs.

I can still move around the console & the blank white salem window, but I can't click any buttons (close, copy etc).

Have you cleared the Java cache and downloaded again? Sometimes just one file gets corrupted and you have to download the whole thing again.

Yeah, I've tried that several times, also tried re-installing Java, installing 32/64-bit, installing older Java (Java 6). Same problem still :(
