I have my torch but sometimes the light goes away even with fuel inside and some of my jack-o-lanterns ive got do the same thing go out and come back on and im near enough for this not to happen also..

This happens, because there is a limit of light sources ingame.
Means, only 3 (?) sources will be shown.
Your torch is not off... just the light turns off in your client if other are around.

I think it is implemented in reason of limits by the javaclient itself. Maybe just to prevent lags.
