Missing resources

I have been building a large number of boards piles on Popham lately and I had this happen a couple times.

1) I start a timber pile with 10 stone. The last instance, I built about 7 at once.
2) Piles were built off claim
3) I few days have gone by since I started. I finished once last night, and looking back I believe it happened then too (BUILD progress went to 120%)
4) I walked up to piles and they were empty 40/0/0 and 10/0/0 but there was a sign post. If I put nothing in and walked away, the sign disappeared, but at one time it had 10 stone BUILT in.
5) When I finished the piles they built to 120% as if the previous stone was counted.

I thought this happened on other occasions, but I thought I was imaging it. Since it was multiple posts at once I could notice it happening.

If you load resources in, but don't build them, they can decay. This was done to stop people from storing resources in signposts with no intent to finish them.

Place items into a construction sign post off claim will decay fairly quickly. I want to say I have seen in a matter of minutes.
Place items into a construction sign on claim seems to react the same if I recall.

Build items into a construction sign post off claim they will decay at a normal rate. (This is the scenario where you will get a higher percentage then 100% on the construction.)
Build items into a construction sign post on claim they do not decay.

Constructions completed off claim other than Mine and Well will decay randomly.
Constructions completed on claim do not decay at all.

I thought this applied to items that were NOT built in? I built them in... but fair enough.

It's just standard decay. Like even a built building can lose hitpoints if it's not on claimed land. The way signposts show decay is to have materials lost. So even if they are built in, if the get hit with a decay tick, the materials go missing.

This is probably cheaper than finishing a building and finding out you have to repair it to get it to full HP.

Nope if you build in the items but it is off claim it is still susceptible to erosion and my lose a stone or two. So the timber pile would require another couple stones which would then throw the percentage to higher than 100% indicating that items were lost.
