Hi guys,

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I've got a similar problem. The mouse pointer is invisible in the java client most of the time (it appears normally when located over the buttons in the lower left).

I'm running the game from a fresh Zorin 9 (Ubuntu flavour) install, with the most recent updates, using the icedtea7 java client, have jdk7 installed as well.

Cheers,
An

Hey there!

Same problem with me...
Using the newest version of ubuntu and also icedTeaWeb. No Cursor ingame and it is hard to play ;9 or even to creat your character

is it possible at all to use the oracle java distributions ? They have packages for linux too. I don't like oracle anymore than you guys, but it tends to have less issues for the clients here.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Same problem here under Linux Debian 64 bit with this Java Installation:

>>> java -version
java version "1.7.0_95"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.4) (7u95-2.6.4-1~deb8u1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.95-b01, mixed mode)

Mouse cursor disappears over the Java Window, though sometimes it seems to flash into view for a fraction of a second, but only while moving it.
Cursor is visible inside the window, but only when the java window does NOT have focus. One can see that by switching back and forth with ALT-F3 and ESC.
The cursor functions normally and spot-on, even though it is invisible.
Same symptoms with the official and with Enders client.

I don't think it's the system, since it works perfectly otherwise, but the setup is like this:
Thinkpad W701
Nvidia Quadro FX 2800M 1GB
Nouveau
Debian 64bit 8.4 Jessie
KDE

Game looks perfect otherwise, but is unplayable with invisible pointer.

Did have anyone success by switching to the proprietary Oracle Java SDK?
Or is there, since i rather prefer the free Java SDK, possibly any other way to fix this? Maybe a client patch?

Just installed Oracle Java JRE to check out if that hint has merrit (hint: doesn't). Instructions are here, for anyone interested:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ ... th-apt-get

>>> java -version
java version "1.8.0_77"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_77-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.77-b03, mixed mode)

The symptoms are exactly the same (mouse cursor invisible) as with the free Java jre. So, NO SUCCESS WITH ORACLE JAVA, either.

Yet mostly anybody on Linux will use Firefox and IcedTea (or, if absolutely unavoidable, Oracle). Does that mean, that Salem is just not intended for Linux use? Untested, unsupported and NOT WORKING? Or am I missing something?

Tried with Oracle java as well to the same result as above.

Not to be mean, but lack of staff reply for ~1 year, even if that reply would be a "sorry, we're not going to fix this" line, is rather ...disheartening.

first off:

The client, both default and mine (not sure about Ender's) is actually being developed on linux. Not working on linux is hence silly.

It is more likely to be something with your local installation. Hardware accelerated graphics not behaving well, incorrect bit depth (mainly for Mac that we've seen this before, if memory serves), poor graphics drivers or a graphics card that not actually supports the requisite OpenGL version are all possibilities. Notably, if you're running linux then the nouveau are simply subpar compared to the nvidia drivers and you should really install the proprietary nvidia drivers.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.
