Try to run - same problem. But on 3th or 4rd try it happened. Now all good.

Damned witches! Now again black screen. Running on Launch the client button from salemthegame

Rebooted my router and now all good. Seems its connection problem.

Are you on a laptop or computer? Because with a different game + this one I tried both on my laptop and my brothers computer, on the laptop it doesn't work but on the computer it does... for me, it may be different for you.

The distinction between a laptop and desktop really isn't important. What is important is the hardware included on each computer along with any drivers needed to run the hardware. In this day, the hardware is almost indistinguishable between the two other than notebooks get low power version of the desktop graphics processors (which means the highest end graphics cards aren't available for mobile platforms) and other bells and whistles to help battery performance. Other than that, the biggest culprit for issues is either bad drivers or improperly installed hardware (something didn't get disabled, etc.)

I'm having this same black screen after trying to log in issue. I've also turned off my firewall, put both given ports into my router for port forwarding, and tried the console command stated at the start of the thread. I tried googling around, but all I could find was this thread and a few like it, with this seeming like the most informative one.

Other java based games seem to work alright for me, like Haven & Hearth. Any ideas?

Two main recommendations on these issues are:
* update your video driver
* update Java (I would recommend the 64bit version if you can use it)

On the video driver, I have had to even try beta's or downgrade, I believe it is tied to the phases of the moon at times.

I already have up to date Java and video drivers. Any other ideas?

delete salem folder and try to download again maybe

Deleting .salem and trying to connect again didn't do anything. I couldn't find the other Salem folder, I didn't have a second one in that location.

This is connection problem, lots of people having it with salem. Try to use tunelling proxy software to confirm my theory. I like "Private Tunnel", but you can try any other one.
