Relog on boat

Postby Okocim » Sat Sep 29, 2012 1:38 pm

When my game crash(witch is pretty often) i can log bac on the boat, it ask if i want to lose my items and port back to my leanto or wait...
It should be posible to relog on boat it its not moved yet or just apear few tiles near that position or even on the nearest coast so i dont need travel long distances to get back my boat.

Its due to how the game deals with logging in. You are going to the same spot but there is something there....the boat. Its just like someone placing a boulder where you logged out.

Yeah i know how it works but its bug for me.
I cant use boat bacause of that. last time iv used it iv got to travel back to get boat 3 times...
1st time it crashes ~30 mins away from my village
2nd time iv get the boat and traveled ~5 min before it crashes again (it took me ~45 min to get to the boat location)
3rd time iv end up crashed ~5 mins away from my village (it took me ~30 min to get to the boat location)
Finaly iv get the boat back to the village. From now on boat is my container for fresh bears...

What is a bug for you and what the devs consider a bug are two different things. I'm going to reserve the decision to move this thread to I&I for now until we can get a dev comment on it. Would you have an issue with this if you didn't crash on a regular basis?

I'm going to agree that this is something that would be nice to have, but I'm not sure if there's a practical way to do this. What if someone comes along and moves the boat. Should your character get moved, too? I think we all can say the answer is "No". On the other end, tying the boat to the character, should the boat really disappear from the game world when a character in the boat logs out? Seems like an unfair way to "vault" more goods that you can with just your character and backpack.

but moving spawn point of character 2 tiles away if on boat is a good solution for me.

@edit
If i wouldnt crash that often it would be less annoying, but still. If i lose internet connection, if i lack the power, if my computer crash. It's good as long i can get back to where i left my boat. But when it happen in the middle of lake? do i rly have to lose my eq, boat and everything onboat?

Being in the middle of a lake, because you spawned 2 tiles away from the boat, would still lead to the same result. I can assure you, you aren't swimming across a lake.

What's wrong with spawning the player on the boat if it hasn't moved? And if it has, spawn them in the water where the boat was (or TP them to HS w/ items).

That's the tricky part I was referring to.

And if it has, spawn them in the water where the boat was (or TP them to HS w/ items).

And that's so ripe for abuse that it's almost not even worth commenting on.

Not sure which part you are referring to being abusable. The dropping in water or TP to homestead.

If it's the dropping in water, I can see obvious issues with that (especially if one doesn't have swimming), which is why I added the 2nd portion.

If you were talking about the homestead TP, how is that any more abusable than any other way you can TP yourself home using an alt (logging out and placing a construction sign or a rock or a log where the char. logged out). Unless they plan on solving that issue (which might be doable by instead trying to TP the player to a location within 10 blocks - but it would be a pain to implement properly to keep players from being ported over walls/rivers/cliffs) I don't see how it would make a difference.

EDIT: It's been awhile, but didn't HnH place you back in the boat if it hadn't moved and if it had, TP'd you home?

No. It dumped you in the water, and if you had swimming, there was a good chance you could drown before you got control of your character.
