Odds are you have an error in your Java installation or you have a network conflict. The latter might be easier and is more likely to be the culprit. What kind of security software are you running? Try turning it off temporarily while the client installs and see if that fixes it. Once installed, you may or may not be able to run the game without configuring it, though, so you might need to dig out some documentation. Some security software hates Java and won't let it install anything, and in one case, required the security software to be completely uninstalled if I recall right (forget which it was, sorry, but if my security suite won't shut down when I want it, it's doing the same thing I want it to prevent other software from doing).
In the case of a bad Java installation, you'll need to uninstall your Java, reboot, and then reinstall.

Having the same problem. There is also another thread about this problem.
http://forum.plymouth.seatribe.se/viewt ... f=10&t=640I got my authentication problem to work by going to Java Control Panel, Control Panel -> Programs -> Java (32bit). When there you go to General tab and Network Settings. By checking Direct connection from network settings, you get your problem solved.
I think this is caused because default settings is to use same proxy settings as default browser in your system. However Salem doesn't apparently like to be routed through proxies.
Hope this helps.
