See my reply to the OP, who had the same problem, on the first page on the thread.

I tried this several times on both clients with different characters. So upsetting to know I can't play my game. I have tried every option that people are posting but yet "poof" my game vanishes with no error. I think I will need a free hat in in my mail for compensation... but on a serious note, is this getting fixed to day so I can play this weekend. I would hate to have to go out and be social.

I was able to use ender's client. So one question, if my graphics driver is so old why have I been able to play the game up until the point of the last update? Also why does ender's client work fine for me? Either way I am good now with Enders.

Please try ":gl meshmode dlist" as well and if that helps. (That is, DLIST in lowercase.)

Mind you, you need to ensure that you type in the commands exactly as I wrote them here, because the character selection screen is unfortunately still unable to display any error messages in case you typed something wrong.

Well, I've rewritten large portions of the client over the summer, so it will be using the driver in different ways from how it did previously.

If Ender hasn't updated his client with the new water surface yet, then that's probably why; if the client isn't using it or any other special video features, then there's nothing to force the use of shaders on the video card. Turning it off with ":gl wsurf off" should fix the problem for you in the default client too, in that case.

Ender did update his client with the new water surface, but you have to "activate" it from the in-game options menu.

Worked like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to work through this with us.

Will I need to enter the command every time I open the client?

Not the Java console, materia, though that is useful for getting troubleshooting information when running an app. When you open Salem, there's a hidden dev console command prompt you activate by typing the colon and then the command. Make sure you don't have a chat bar active when you do this else nothing will happen. (Which isn't possible on the character select, but is when playing.) Finish typing the command, hit enter, and your options will take effect.
I am a moderator. I moderate stuff. When I do, I write in this color.

Interesting. That makes it sounds as if your driver has problems with VBOs or VAOs. Could you please run the default client and let it crash once (use the console command ":die" to force it to crash), so that it sends an error report to me with information about your video card?

Also, you may want to try ":gl meshmode mem" as well. I've noticed that direct drawing has been faster than display-lists on some Intel cards, so it may gain you greater performance.

Nope, it should be saved.
