What version of java is known to be stable

Postby camobeast » Sun Nov 18, 2012 6:08 am

I've noticed alot of posts on java V7 being unstable with the game client and am currently experiancing issues on two diffirent laptops one bieng relatively new with good hardware specs and an older laptop that im unsure of the specs both running the latest version or java the problem is as defined.

On the newer laptop im experiancing random game crashes and also not so random crashes where the process will show memory usage of nearly 800mb when it crashes , i have to force close the process before im able to login although not always the case there appears to be a few different issues here and could be attributed to a memory leak.

On the older laptop the game will only stay open for 1-4minutes before it crashes but seems to work fine up until the close, with this computer having less memory im wondering if that is the reason why it crashes earlier than the newer laptop.

To conclude the quesion im asking is what update version of Java 6 is known to be stable with the client and if im missing something else here, thanks in advance.

Supposedly Ender fixed his issue with Java 7. Enders client is very popular and was the main reason people were talking about needing to switch to Java 6.

I assume you're using a custom, go pop a question in the custom clients thread for your mod of choice and ask there :)
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

The issues are involving the standard game client sorry i should of stated that but it does say in facs that custom client issues are to be posted elsewhere

I just noticed today that if I run the enders salem2.jnlp for enders I end up using Java version 7 and the client starts locking up randomly after that. If I run the salem icon (which I been doing for a while now) I end up using Java 6 and don't seem to have many problems. So I know I have both versions of java installed, but sounds like Java 7 isn't working well.

I have a co-player who is having a lot of lockups and crashes. I wonder if he is using Java7 with enders, but I have to ask him when he is online. Does anyone know for sure ender's issues have been resolved with Java 7? Still trying to find the enders thread too.

EDIT: according to enders thread he recommends Java 6 still. I have to see what my freind is using.. I also looks like I am using an outdated link to the enders client

For what it is worth the new Enders client link (...updater.jpln) it seems to be working just fine so far on Java 7 for me.

The default client made to work with the latest version of java (java 7).

This subforum is not the place to discuss 3rd party clients. Locking.
