Build Board disappearing.

Howdy All!

If you could all be so helpful to maybe explain or try and help me work out something.
I was building a house with a friend. We had the build board up for the house for about 3 minutes turning away to get the rest of the materials only to turn back and the build board to have vanished with 25 nails and 15 plained boards in it.
I know that build boards disappear after a period of time, but not after less than 4 minutes.

Could you maybe help clear up this predicament, please? After all the work getting the nails and boards, also the ground level enough for the house it is quite annoying as you could probably guess....

It wasn't on a claimed area.
I built a house that wasn't on a claim less than a day ago and this didn't happen, it didn't disappear, when I went to get resources for it, that's why I put this in the bugs and technicalities section because I thought it might have been a bug. (My friend put the build board up for this house. The other house was for His dad who plays with us and didn't have the resources to make it.)

Two things could be happening here. If you don't build the resources in, they will disappear very quickly. Maybe in just a few minutes.

If you did build them in, but it wasn't on claimed land, it will disappear more slowly, but you can get unlucky to get a few of the random decay ticks back to back and have your sign disappear.

A house, once built, has many HP so it will last a long time on unclaimed land. A sign only has a few HP though.

So, you can either claim the land and be sure to build in any materials you add right away. Or you can get all the materials together in your inventory and then put down the sign and quickly build it so that it doesn't start decaying until it is a house. Still, the best idea is to claim it since unclaimed things will both decay and be easily robbed with no consequences. People can just come up and steal your stuff and you'll never know without a claim.

We are kinda biffed out that all of our plained boards and the last of our nails are gone. They were dedicated to build in the board, the only reason we turned round and moved away was because we didn't have the room in our inventories to hold all of the resources.
We know that the stuff wasn't stolen because there haven't been people through the area we are in, in god knows how long and nothing has gone missing from our boxes, where there is more valuable stuff. So we know it wasn't stolen. Also the Build board was not even off screen so if anyone stole anything they must have been invisible.
We were going to build the house then the claim stone because I can't see every angle of the game because I am using a laptop and track pad, so we build the house then the stone so I can see where it is being put. We understand how the claim stones and building house mechanics work and this has never happened before. We have moved around multiple times. So we think it is a bug and our things disappeared.
I understand that your immediate assumption is that we are new players but we aren't.
Sorry if this sounds cheeky or rude in anyway but you must understand that a lot of time, resources and madness have gone into the making of those items that just upped and disappeared.

Yes, but this isn't a bug. You have to build the items into the sign immediately after you put them in or they'll disappear. You should also claim things before you build something as large as a house.

If you can't rotate your camera, you're going to have a hard time. I suggest hooking a mouse up to that laptop. You can also try the Latikai client, which is a player-made client, and enable the 'laptop mode' that allows you to zoom and rotate by pressing both buttons.
